Economics By Design was founded by Jacque, Adrian & Joe Mallender in May 2019.

Jacque Mallender

Jacque is a respected international health and public policy economist. She helps stakeholders to identify and demonstrate their value, and the value of their ideas for improving health and care. She has directed and delivered many engagements in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, North America and Africa. Her particular focus is on the economics of health systems, health financing, strategic purchasing, population health management, integrated care, health workforce transformation and digital health. Jacque also designs and delivers health system economics training for health professionals. She delivers the annual health economics workshop on the Management in Medicine Programme for Green Templeton College, Oxford University.

Jacque is a consultant with the World Bank Group, an Executive Committee member of the Economic Research Council, and she also sits on the Advisory Board for the Nottingham University School of Economics. Joe Mallender

Joe is an experienced designer working in health and public policy. He uses conceptual and visual design skills to help stakeholders find solutions to complex problems and narratives. Joe has national and international experience in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Africa.

He has supported the design of national and local health care system transformation strategies, new health financing and payment models, value-based care delivery pathways, health workforce transformation, and the value proposition of digital health solutions. He also uses his skills to support the delivery of training for health professionals and associated content management and publishing.

Adrian Mallender

Adrian has over 30 years of hands-on experience of working with individuals living complex lives as both a volunteer and as an employee, delivering services, and coordinating volunteers on behalf of third-sector organisations. He has worked in the UK and internationally in the health and criminal justice sectors with a focus on disability, gender-based violence, safeguarding for vulnerable adults, offender rehabilitation, and supporting people with complex health and social care needs. At Economics by Design, Adrian leads our engagement work with service users and volunteers.
